Megalodon Shark Tooth Diving in Venice

The Complete Guide to Megalodon Shark Tooth Dives in Venice, Florida

If you’ve looked up “things to do” in Venice or Siesta Key, you’ve likely heard about diving to find shark teeth. But not just any shark teeth—prehistoric Megalodon shark teeth from one of history’s largest predators!

That’s right, you can dive and search for the remains of the mighty Megalodon when diving off the coast of Venice, just a short drive from Siesta Key. Locals call it shark tooth diving in The Boneyard.

Discover The Boneyard

Venice is known as The Shark Tooth Capital of the World due to the abundance of large shark teeth found in an offshore area called The Boneyard. Easily accessible only by boat, The Boneyard stretches about 5 miles south from the South Venice Jetties and features the area’s best visibility and shallow water, making it a favorite spot for water enthusiasts.

While the exact reason for the abundance of Megalodon shark teeth in The Boneyard is highly disputed, some scientists speculate that a major prehistoric river may have emptied into the Gulf of Mexico near Venice, creating a prime shark-feeding site.

The Boneyard covers a large area, offering many places to explore. As a charter company, we can visit different locations every day.

Do You Have to Dive to Find a Shark Tooth? Or Can You Find Them on the Beach?

You might find a shark tooth along the beach, but not a Megalodon tooth. This apex predator existed more than 3 million years ago, so your best chance of finding its teeth is by diving about 15-20 feet below the surface. The sand beneath the corals naturally preserves most skeletal remains before they wash ashore.

Diving for shark teeth is a great option, especially for beginners due to the shallow depths. You can also try a huka dive, which doesn’t require any diving experience, or simply free dive with a snorkel.

Our dive masters will be with you the entire time, ensuring your safety and helping you hunt for shark teeth.

Are You Guaranteed to Find a Tooth?

It’s important to note that there’s no guarantee you’ll find a shark tooth. That’s why we call it a Shark Tooth Hunt!

These teeth are buried in the sand over dozens of miles of open water. While we know the best areas for finding them, and our divers are always here to help, there are no guarantees.

However, we do carry souvenirs in our gift shop. If you call ahead, we can arrange for one of our dive masters to give you extra help on your trip for the best chance of finding a tooth!

What Can You Expect on a Charter Trip?

Each trip lasts around 4 hours, including a 35-minute boat ride to our dive spot and up to 3 hours of activity time. Guests can choose to dive, huka dive, or snorkel. You can bring your own equipment or use ours.

If it’s your first time, don’t worry. Our expert divers will help you get comfortable in the water by teaching you how to use the equipment and hand signals.

We’ll Huka dive for about 30 minutes or scuba dive for about 2 hours looking for Megalodon shark tooth fossils, with dive flags up and dive masters in the water ensuring you have a great time.

For those who prefer not to snorkel or dive, we carry beach lily pads, shark tooth sifters, and paddleboards to entertain you.

Cover as much ocean floor as possible or just sit back and relax, you will have a great time either way!
